- 1986· Empirical· Collected Papers Vol. 5Sharma, H. M.; and Stephens, R. E. The effects of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Program on DNA repair. Presented in part at the Federation of the American Society of Experimental Biologists meeting, St. Louis, Missouri, USA, April 1986.
Participants in the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program displayed a unique pattern of DNA repair, which may be a mechanism underlying improved health.

- 1997· Alternative Therapies in Clinical Practice· Empirical· Collected Papers Vol. 7Smith, D. E.; Dillbeck, M. C.; and Sharma, H. M. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate and Transcendental Meditation. Alternative Therapies in Clinical Practice 4: 35–37, 1997.
This large-sample study found that practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique was associated with lower erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and higher incidence of zero erythrocyte sedimentation rate. These findings, independent of age and gender, are indicative of lower stress and less negative effects of aging.
- Health—General: Lower Values of Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate
- Health—General: More Frequent Occurrence of Zero Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate
- 1998· Psychosomatic Medicine· Empirical· Collected Papers Vol. 7Schneider, R. H.; Nidich, S. I.; Salerno, J. W.; Sharma, H. M.; Robinson, C. E.; Nidich, R. J.; and Alexander, C. N. Lower lipid peroxide levels in practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation program. Psychosomatic Medicine 60: 38–41, 1998.
Elderly participants in the Transcendental Meditation program displayed significantly lower serum levels of lipid peroxides in comparison to controls. Other research has found oxidative stress (free radical activity) to be associated with the aging process, and the lower lipid peroxide levels found in this study may be an indicator of more healthy physiological aging.

- 2005· Journal of Social Behavior and Personality· Empirical· Collected Papers Vol. 7Nidich, Sanford I.; Schneider, Robert H.; Nidich, Randi J.; Foster, Gloria; Sharma, Hari; Salerno, John; Goodman, Rachel; and Alexander, Charles N. Effect of the Transcendental Meditation program on intellectual development in community-dwelling older adults. Journal of Social Behavior and Personality 17: 217–226, 2005.
Elder adults participating in the Transcendental Meditation program displayed higher levels of cognitive performance than age-matched controls, independent of education level.
- Cognitive Performance: Higher Reasoning Ability
- Cognitive Performance: Higher Verbal Intelligence
- Learning and Memory: Better Long-Term Memory
