Maharishi International University, Fairfield, Iowa, USA. Paper presented at the 89th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association, Los Angeles, California, USA, 26 August 1981.
This paper discusses a unique method of student assessment being pioneered at Maharishi International University, which includes an evaluation of psychophysiological correlates of the growth of higher states of consciousness. The findings of the student assessment program indicate that the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program not only makes an important contribution to the realization of traditional academic goals but also promotes a holistic development of the student's life.

- 1989· Empirical· Collected Papers Vol. 3Orme-Johnson, D. W.; Raimondi, D.; Veseley, B.; Dillbeck, M. C.; and Wallace, R. K. The influence of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Program on field independence: The growth of a stable internal frame of reference. Maharishi International University, Fairfield, Iowa, USA, 1981.
Students who practiced the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program were found to have a higher degree of field independence when compared with undergraduate test norms. The authors propose that this more stable internal frame of reference results from the growing stability of experience of pure consciousness gained through the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program.
