(2019). Stress reduction in the prevention of left ventricular hypertrophy: A randomized controlled trial of Transcendental Meditation and health education in hypertensive African Americans. Ethnicity & Disease, 29(4), 577–586.
Reanalysis of an earlier randomized trial in hypertensive African American adults. At six months, 85 completers showed less progression in left ventricular mass index with TM than health education; substantial attrition limits interpretation.
- Health—Cardiovascular: TM had less progression in left ventricular mass index than health education (adjusted difference −7.55 g/m², p=.040).
- Cardiovascular: Blood pressure fell within both groups without a significant between-group difference.
- Psychological Health: Anger declined within both groups; these results do not establish a TM-specific advantage.
