Neurophysiological entry characteristics: Correlation between EEG coherence and math achievement with subjects practicing the TM Program. Maharishi International University, Fairfield, Iowa, USA, 1981.
EEG coherence was found to be positively correlated with mathematics grades in students practicing Transcendental Meditation. EEG coherence has previously been found to increase as a result of Transcendental Meditation and to correlate with clarity of experience of unbounded awareness. Taken together, these findings emphasize the intimate relationship between higher states of consciousness, neurophysiological integration, and intellectual performance.

The author reviews research findings demonstrating comprehensive development among the students of Maharishi International University in the United States (now Maharishi University of Management), and examines the source of these effects in the unique system of Maharishi’s Vedic Science Based Education offered by the University.

Transcendental Meditation and improved performance on intelligence-related measures: A longitudinal study. Personality and Individual Differences 12: 1105–1116, 1991.
This study found that university students practicing the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program demonstrated, in comparison to control students, improved performance on a psychometric intelligence test, improvement in reaction time measures correlated with general intelligence (faster choice reaction time, lower standard deviation of choice reaction time), and faster simple reaction time.—
- Motor Performance: Faster Simple Reaction Time
- Cognitive Performance: Improved Intelligence Test Performance

Attacking crime at its source: Consciousness-Based education in the prevention of violence and antisocial behavior. Journal of Offender Rehabilitation 36: 229–255, 2003.
The authors review research indicating that the Transcendental Meditation program reduces risk factors for crime in four broad categories—physiological, psychological, sociological, and substance abuse; and conclude that the program will be a highly effective means to reduce or eliminate violent behavior in schools.
