The practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique by prison inmates was found to result in lower recidivism rates after release. The effect of Transcendental Meditation in reducing recidivism was consistently significant when controlling for factors known to influence recidivism. Participation in other prison programs was, on the other hand, associated with no change or a slight increase in recidivism.
