Department of Educational Psychology, Maharishi European Research University, Switzerland, and Department of Psychology, Maharishi International University, Fairfield, Iowa, USA, 1976.
Crime rate decreased in cities after one percent of their populations had begun practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique.

- 1981· Journal of Crime and Justice· Empirical· Collected Papers Vol. 4Dillbeck, M. C.; Landrith III, G. S.; and Orme-Johnson, D. W. The Transcendental Meditation Program and crime rate change in a sample of forty-eight cities. Findings also published in Journal of Crime and Justice 4: 25–45, 1981.
In a five-year follow-up study of Borland and Landrith's pioneering work on the Maharishi Effect, an analysis of 48 cities confirmed that crime rate decreases when one percent of a city population practices the Transcendental Meditation technique. A reduced crime trend was found to continue throughout the follow-up period.

- 1982· International Journal of Neuroscience· Empirical· Collected Papers Vol. 3Orme-Johnson, D.; Dillbeck, M. C.; Wallace, R. K.; and Landrith III, G. S. Intersubject EEG coherence: Is consciousness a field? International Journal of Neuroscience 16: 203–209, 1982.
EEG coherence was found to increase between subjects practicing Transcendental Meditation at precisely the time at which 2,500 individuals were engaged in the group practice of the TM-Sidhi program over 1,000 miles away. The authors propose that consciousness is an underlying, unbounded field which is enlivened during the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program. This study therefore helps to explain the mechanics of the Maharishi Effect, whereby even a small fraction of a population practicing the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program creates coherence in the collective consciousness of the whole society.

- 1988· The Journal of Mind and Behavior· Empirical· Collected Papers Vol. 5Dillbeck, M. C.; Banus, C. B.; Polanzi, C.; and Landrith III, G. S. Test of a field model of consciousness and social change: The Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program and decreased urban crime. The Journal of Mind and Behavior 9: 457–486, 1988.
Three studies are reported indicating that participation in the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program by citizens reduces crime in urban areas.

Both suicide and road traffic accident rates decreased in cities after one percent of their population had started practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique.
- Sociological—Reduced Accidents: Decreased Automobile Accident Rate (Cities, USA, 1973–1977)
- Sociological—Improved Quality of Life: Decreased Suicide Rate (Cities, USA, 1973–1977)
- 1989· Empirical· Collected Papers Vol. 4Dillbeck, M. C.; Landrith III, G. S.; Polanzi, C.; and Baker, S. R. The Transcendental Meditation Program and crime rate change: A causal analysis. The results of two studies reported in this paper support a causal relationship between participation in the Transcendental Meditation program and decreased crime rate in urban areas.
